OK, I did NOT know this concert, San Francisco’s answer to Lollapalooza, existed. BUT, featuring the likes of Erykah Badu, The Roots, Big Boi, The Shins, MGMT, Muse and plenty of other well-known and lesser-known acts, Outside Lands is bound to be awesome. A three-day weekend chock-full of great music and a laidback atmosphere in San Francisco’s most scenic park — if there is one event I’m not missing over the summer, it’s probably this one. August 12-14th.

I had a lot of expectations for this year’s Coachella (my first!).  With a lineup including the Black Keys, The Arcade Fire, Steve Angello, and of course Kanye I didn’t think I’d be able to pick a favorite.  I still don’t know who I would rate as the overall best performance, but the biggest surprise favorite Yelle.  It was the first show I saw on Saturday.  Laidback Luke was in the same time slot and I had initially planned to see that show.  At the last minute I decided to see Yelle instead, and I’m incredibly glad I did.  I had almost no expectations going in, but was completely blown away.  In addition to the performance’s musical perfection, Yelle had an incredible onstage presence and was absolutely charming.  The energy both on the stage and in the crowd was amazing.  She’s coming to San Francisco next month (May 19th), I may have to see her again.
