Echoes of Silence: #New #Mixtape by @theweekendxo
One of 2011’s biggest break out R&B acts, The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye, has just released his third mixtape of the year, Echoes of Silence, and made the full track list available to stream or download via @Soundcloud (embed below). This mixtape isn’t as catchy as House of Balloons or Thursday, but there is a depth to it not immediately available in the other two. Stand out tracks: Montreal, Initiation, and Same ol’ Song. Enjoy!

Emerging Artist Watch: Mayer Hawthorne
Hawthorne, born Andrew Cohen, is a 32 year old white guy from Ann Arbor, Michigan. you wouldn’t guess that listening to his crooning, which is a dead ringer for Smokey Robinson or Curtis Mayfield. But Hawthorne is the real deal- he’s been listening to records since he was a kid and has a well-developed appreciation for American soul and R&B during its heyday. In addition to his singing, Hawthorne is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and audio-engineer. Hawthorne has recently been sampled by Hip-Hop artists like Kanye West, the Cool Kids, and Childish Gambino, and electronic act Chromeo. Look for him to break out soon.
You can download his recently dropped Covers EP for free here, but to get the full experience you should definitely download his full album ‘A Strange Arrangement.’
Beautiful, melodic, thoroughly impressive effort from The Weeknd, a Canadian R&B project whose members are currently anonymous.
The mixtape is called House of Balloons and you can download it at their website: http://the-weeknd.com/
