The Neptunes 2-Hour Mix
Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams were easily the most revered hip-hop production duo of the early’00s. With beat credits for Busta Rhymes, Clipse, Diddy, and Justin Timberlake, as well as an unforgettable album of their own (In Search Of),anyone who knows anything about hip hop can appreciate what they’ve done. Thankfully, NTS resident Martelo just dedicated his entire two-hour radio show to the group’s prowess. Enjoy 120 minutes of nothing but The Neptunes. You can stream it here with part 2 to follow soon.

The Mercury Prize winners’ songs play like introductions to longer pieces that will eventually explode into bludgeoning catharsis — and yet instead merely whisper, shimmer and seethe some more. The xx lets its songs billow out softly and quietly, with only pretty guitar lines to lessen the tension.

    Martyrs in the Making

@MyNameIsBizzle and @BumpsINF have accomplished what so few have yet to accomplish in regards to Hip Hop music…they’ve managed to put out a GREAT project entitled #MartyrsInTheMaking which is considered “Christian Hip Hop,” but sounds just as good, if not better, than a lot of mainstream Hip Hop that’s currently being engulfed by the masses. #Bizzle a.k.a Mark Felder is an L.A. native who has turned down a number of record deals, so that he can stay on his path of righteousness, and his music has been putting other Emcees to task about the nature of their lyrics. Martyrs in the Making is clearly that album that gives you all the hot tracks and catchy rhyme-verses, without having all of the “run-of-the-mill” negative content. #Bizzle really captured a name for himself when he released the song “You got some explaining to do,” which was directed towards @S_C_ (Jay-Z). So whether you’re of faith, no matter your beliefs, or not of faith….you’d still want to listen to the latest mixtape #MartyrsInTheMaking from #Bizzle, which features @BumpsINF who is equally versed in rhyme delivery as well as blessing folks with spittin’ the scripture!

    #DonnaSummer the Queen of Disco

Donna Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard chart, and throughout her great career, has decorated her “trophy room” with 5-Grammys…an amazing talent, but most importantly, an amazing human being. We celebrate her life, and will continue to celebrate her music, and legacy.

Please CLICK PHOTO for an amazing tribute/performance by Donna Summer and #JossStone.

    App Review | Ohm

The iPhone 4 Music app in my opinion is great, its easy to use, clean, and overall gets the job done. However, like everything else in technology, there is always a way to improve or add new features. In comes the recently released Ohm app, the first project from Ohm Labs. This is a dope app to use in combination with the Music app and is mad useful for on-the-go listening. Ohm uses quick and easy controls including swipe to change songs, double tap screen to start or stop music, and one tap playlist creation. But the best feature is the ability for you to easily create a queue of any songs in any order from your music library. Instead of having to constantly re open your Music app to change the song to a different artist or album you can simply create a queue of songs to fit your mood for that moment. In addition, Ohm allows you to import, adjust, and create playlists very quickly and can be added straight to your streaming queue. If that isnt easy enough, Ohm features a one tap Tweet button that auto generates a custom “now playing” tweet for your quick sharing pleasure. We are looking forward to the Ohm Labs updates for this app which will hopefully feature a portrait function, video queuing, and other sharing abilities.

@Beastie Boys Bid Farewell to MCA

Adam Yauch, who helped make hip-hop a worldwide cultural force as one-third of the influential @Beastie Boys, has died after battling cancer. He was 47. The band’s publicist said in a statement that Yauch died in his native New York on Friday morning. Yauch, also a film director who co-founded the distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories and an organizer of several charitable concerts, including the Tibetan Freedom Concerts, was first diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left salivary gland in 2009. Rest in peace. CLICK THE PIC for one of my favorite Beastie songs.
